“Web 0.2” does not refer to a specific technical update, but to the change web pages are designed and used. We now no longer access news or entertainment in printed form in newspapers or magazines. Instead we can read news and all sorts of other texts on our tablets and phones because digital technology enables them to adapt to whatever technological device we are using. Initially, internet users were only passive, only able to read material uploaded by specialists or professionals. Now, we are creators of our own content that can be shared all over the world with one click.
Apple
My group and I used Apple Macs firstly to access Premier Pro through, also, we used an iPhone to record snippets of audio on. We uploaded our cuts onto the Mac because these computers are quick and easy to use. This was the first time I had properly used an Apple Mac and from first impressions I found it quite complex but after getting used to the software, I quickly picked it up.
Dafont
I have used this website before in the past and often go back here if I’m looking for different, unique fonts. It’s very simple to use and has an incredibly wide range of fonts to choose from. I had few difficulties with this website due to my past experience and the simplicity of the site. The only slight constraint I had with this website was the pixilation that occurred when screenshotting the fonts from the site. I attempted to overcome this by making the text as large as possible when cutting it from the site so that the pixilation lessened.
Blogger
Blogger is a free online site used to create a blog. It’s available for anyone who has the internet and is free to access. I have used blogger before so with this experience found it relatively easy to use. Blogger allowed me to upload and present my work in an organised, neat way. I found it fun to use because of the different aesthetic approaches Blogger allows, and I gained a sense of pride for my work and presentation.
Flipsnack
I uploaded my document written work to this site so that I could create a flip book animation of my coursework for my blog. An advantage of this is you don’t have to keep scrolling through pages and pages of writing and you can simply click a button to reach the next page. The site was new to me and took me a bit of getting used to, but it all became clear. I really liked the options it gave me to edit my work, the overall look of the flip book on my blog looked professional and neat.
Microsoft word/PowerPoint
I used Word and PowerPoint for different platforms to present my coursework. Word was used for long texts of written coursework, and PowerPoint enabled me to create a slide show of the work I produced. Both of these are very simple to use and give directions or templates for those who are unfamiliar. I found Word and PowerPoint very easy to use, this may be due to the fact I was familiar with how they worked but I believe in general most people operate them with ease.
Premiere Pro
Premiere Pro is a video editing software by Adobe and allows you to create dynamic videos neatly and professionally. I had never used this software before so I found it very difficult to start with. The possibilities did seem endless and I never fully got to grips, but thankfully my group knew a little more than I did. I found the whole programme complex but that’s probably because of my lack of experience.
Photoshop
Photoshop is also by Adobe and is a programme created to edit digital photos. I have been familiar with this software for a few years so had no trouble using it. I used this software to create my film poster and my magazine cover. Having used this last year in media really helped me to pick it up quickly.
Sony
Sony was the brand of our camera equipment. We used a tripod and a recording camera, both of which I have never had previous experience with. I was responsible for a lot of the filming and quickly picked up how to work the camera and tripod. They were difficult to get to grips with first but I quickly got used to it. We used these to film our footage and keep the camera steady.
Nikon
We used a Nikon camera to capture the images for our poster and magazine cover. The quality was good and the camera itself was simple and easy. We used a D3000 and the resolution wasn’t perfect, but good enough for this small project.
Sandisk
This was the brand of our card reader in which we saved our footage. At first we had a bit of trouble as the reader was faulty but after replacing this with a new one, it worked fine.
YouTube
YouTube is an online video sharing site. YouTube was used for our inspiration on horror trailers and also to access our feedback videos. I use YouTube a lot and I’m familiar with the way it works so had no issues using it.
We then became the prosumers of our own content, accessing it off a free site to put it on our blogs for inspection.
